Satchmo Productions

Last Tuesday I met with Lonny Kaufman, a Producer with Satchmo Productions, to get a better idea of what is really going on with the movies in Louisiana. I was told by a very reliable source that he was "the guy" to go to if I wanted to learn.
Well as we got to chatting about current events and politics of the movie industry, we soon realized that this would probably take a lot longer than we had imagined.
He agreed to sit down with me sometime soon and give me the history of the movie business in Louisiana, along with what is to come. He and I are going to trace the industry before the passing of the tax credit bill, which he helped write, and what has gone on since.
In addition, he had production coordianator David Katz come meet up with us and agree to give me weekly updates about what is happening on the movies sets on which they work. They will fill me in on what it takes to get a film started, the money factor, and how politics play a role in all of it. It should be very interesting.
As soon as I meet with Mr. Kaufman or talk to David, I will post. Keep your eyes peeled for an interesting glimpse into the world of film.

Question to ask them: What does OtherLA have that other states don't have BESIDES New Orleans? Are we pretty much providing that one set for scenery?

There is a great article on the front page of LAFILM.org from Baton Rouge's newspapaer, THE ADVOCATE, talks about productions going on inside the state being filmed outside of New Orleans. http://www.lafilm.org/media/index.cfm?id=537
