Brooke Ellison for Senate
Brooke Ellison, a Democrat, says that she will wait out of respect and courtesy to the other candidates running, until after the 2005 election to speak out about her potential candidacy for the Senate.
Throughout her inspirational life, Ellison has struggled with paralysis but went on to graduate from Harvard and is currently studying for a doctoral degree in political psychology at SUNY Stony Brook. Ellison's book, Miracles Happen: One Mother, One Daughter, One Journey, was turned into a movie, The Brooke Ellison story, which was directed by Christopher Reeve and starred Lacey Chabert. The movie was filmed in New Orleans in 2004.
Her campaign announcement was reported in Thursday's editions of Newsday. She stated that her campaign would address the lack of affordable housing for young adults on Long Island, dwindling open space and environmental protections, and New York's failure to fund embryonic stem-cell research, among other issues.
Ellison has led a truly remarkable life, taking on challenges that most would assume impossible for her. I think running for an elected position would be a great idea. She is positive, motivated, intelligent, and caring. She would be a breath of fresh air in politics. I would like to know more about her actual ideas for those subjects, so I will see about getting that information when it is made available.
If you haven't seen the movie yet, check it out. I will keep you posted with any updates.
